The Friday Site
2000

The Friday Site was a self-initiated problem solving excercise that came out of the ECHO prototyping experience.

ECHO was abanndoned, leaving producers and the administration wtih some hard decisions to make. Not knowing how long this could take and not wanting to sit idle waiting, the Web Development production team got together to brainstorm on what we could do to help. I proposed creating a site which would gather together all the lessons learned on the ECHO project. This idea got support from the production team and we got authorisation to pursue it.

Detail from Friday Site Creative Projects: Design Team Profile Flash Application. Click to launch. We called it the Friday Site because we hoped to publish new content every Friday. It was intended as a privileged case study of interest internally, as well as beyond the NFB to all those developing cultural content on the Web. For the technical team, it was also a means to move the institution into the realities of creating dynamic sites.

We succeded in creating content, a content management system, page design and a dynamically generated site. In the mean time, the institution found its new direction, consequently the production team's accumulated expertise was redirected elsewhere.
